Boru 2 - Original Watercolour
This painting is from a series of paintings inspired by my sisters beautiful white horse 'Boru'. In this painting I wanted to express Boru's gentle and calm nature by using lots of soft washes of blues and gold. Like many of my paintings, I created this by starting with Boru's eyes and worked outwards to build up the form using watercolour washes without a preliminary line drawing in pencil. This allows the painting to naturally appear from the white watercolour paper. I really enjoy painting white subjects as they challenge me to find all the magical highlights, tones and reflected light cast in an animals white fur. This painting is all about balancing the intensity of the colours and shadows in Boru's face against the softness of the white fur. Areas of the painting are left completely unpainted to depict the form of Boru's strong neck and shoulders in white fur.
This original watercolour painting is professionally framed by Appletons Picture Framers in Stillorgan Dublin. It is framed in my signature limed white wooden frame, with an off-white double mount under glass. The piece is approx. 32”x26" framed in size.
