Growing up in the Kildare countryside we were always surrounded by rabbits. My parents garden is always full of rabbits. I called this painting ‘Red’ as in ‘Red Alert’! It’s from a sketch I painted years ago when I first started to get into watercolour and I’ve always loved the pose. It captures that split second when Red suddenly hears potential danger and pops his head up from grazing to transition to high alert mode. I just adore his upright stance. I wanted to try to evoke the sudden brevity of this moment with lots of soft washes to evoke the rabbits beautiful soft fur, with blurred lines to express the speed of his movements as he suddenly moves from relaxed to high alert. This is one of my favourite pieces from the collection as it reminds me of growing up in Kildare and watching the rabbits in the fields surrounding our house.
Apparently it’s illegal in Queensland (Australia) to own a pet rabbit unless you can prove that you’re a magician...
This original painting is completely unique and one of a kind. It is delivered professionally framed by Appletons Picture Framers in Stillorgan Dublin, in my signature limed white wooden frame, with an off-white double mount under glass. This piece is approximately 75cm x 90cm (framed) in size.
I know that buying a piece of original artwork is a big investment and photographs of watercolour paintings rarely does them justice, so you are more than welcome to visit me at area J67 at this year’s Art Source Art Fair in the RDS Dublin. This painting from my new WILD collection, and will be exhibited at Art Source in the RDS from 15th to 17th of November 2019.
Please note this painting will not be available for shipping or collection until after 15th November 2019.
