Coral Choir - Original Watercolour (23"x20.5")

This is my first painting of Flamingos. They are such beautiful birds (noisy but beautiful). Their feathers are a fabulous rich coral colour and the texture of their back feathers looks really luxurious. Having experienced the Flamingos in Dublin Zoo I wanted to paint them in a way which captured their constant movement and chatter as they bunched up together in shallows of their lake. They do sound like group of showgirls hitting the tiles on a Saturday night. I painted this using a combination of gold and magenta to create the rich coral colour. To create the texture of their back and tail feathers I sprinkled some rock salt over this part of the painting when it was still wet to create some interesting salt patterns. This gives the painting some really interesting contrast and provides interest when viewing the painting up close. I called this lively bunch the ‘Coral Choir’.

This original painting has been professionally framed by Appletons Picture Framers in Stillorgan Dublin. It is framed in my signature limed white wooden frame, with an off-white double mount under glass. The piece is 23”x20.5" in size. The photos attached feature the painting to scale in a living interiors to give you a sense of the dimensions.
