Jasper - Original Watercolour
This is 'Jasper' the younger brother of 'Jefferson' (the hare painting featured on the home page of my website). I really enjoy painting hares. I love their wild expression and fabulous eyes. The key focus for this painting is Jaspers large eyes, so like most of my work, I started by painting Jaspers eyes using washes of cobalt blue and french ultramarine without any preliminary pencil marks. This technique allows me to slowly build up the subject using layers of washes such that the the animal organically comes to life as the paint settles into the paper.
To create some interest in the main area of focus, Jaspers eyes, I dropped a pinch of sea salt into the damp wash to create unique salt patterns in the centre of Jaspers eyes. This creates some beautiful depth and extra interest for the viewer when studied up close. This painting is really special as its full of punchy colours and energy. The painting features my favourite colours of magenta pink, blues, turquoise and gold.
This original watercolour painting is professionally framed by Appletons Picture Framers in Stillorgan Dublin. It is framed in my signature limed white wooden frame, with an off-white double mount under glass. The piece is approx. 30”x20" framed in size.
